Smokey Mountain
$45.00
"Smokey Mountain" is painted on an 8x10" Canvas with Acrylic paint, in Portrait orientation.
The colors used in this painting include shades of charcoal grey, dove grey, blue grey, sapphire blue, light blue and white with a hint of teal green, purple and lavender.
This work is available as Fine Art Giclee Reproductions on Paper or Canvas.
"Smokey Mountain" was a response to suggestions by two different family members. One liked "Peaceful Mountain," but without looking as purple, the other wondered about painting something in grey and wanted to watch me paint.
So I set out to do something similar to my other painting, but with grey predominating. I painted this in a rather short time from memory, without referring to my other work. I wasn't intending it to be an exact match, but just to have a similar feel.
When I returned from my trip, I realized I was also influenced by the mountains not far from us. It's a loved and familiar scene that I see in the distance on most clear days whenever I drive to town.
Grey and bright white clouds layer roughly behind a grey mountain with snow and snow covered trees. A sapphire lake at the base of the mountains looks like it is frozen with snow on it.
This work might be considered more impressionistic than abstract.
The subject matter is near and dear to my heart and it feels rewarding looking at it. It is but a simple mountain. Many have more grandeur, others are more rolling, but this one speaks of home.
